What it's used for

Notion AI brings artificial intelligence directly into the Notion workspace where teams already manage their documents, wikis, projects, and databases. Rather than switching to a separate AI tool, you can generate, edit, summarize, and query content right where you work — with full awareness of your team's existing knowledge base.

  • Content generation — write drafts, brainstorm ideas, create outlines, and generate meeting agendas with a simple /ai command
  • Editing & polishing — improve writing, fix grammar, change tone, translate to other languages, and make text longer or shorter
  • Summarization — condense long meeting notes, documents, and database entries into key takeaways
  • Q&A across your workspace — ask questions and get answers drawn from your entire Notion workspace, like a search engine that actually reads and understands your content
  • Database autofill — automatically populate database properties (summaries, tags, categories) using AI based on page content

Teams that already use Notion as their knowledge base, wiki, or project management tool get enormous value from Notion AI because it has access to everything your team has documented. It can answer “What was decided in last week's product meeting?” or “Summarize our Q3 roadmap” by searching across your workspace.

Notion AI is available on web, desktop, and mobile — anywhere Notion runs. It works across all content types including docs, databases, wikis, and synced blocks.

Getting started

  1. You need an existing Notion account. Sign up for free if you don't have one.
  2. Notion AI is an add-on to any Notion plan at $10/member/month (billed per workspace member). Enable it from Settings & Members > Plans in your workspace.
  3. Once enabled, use Notion AI anywhere in your workspace:
    • Type /ai in any page to open the AI prompt menu
    • Highlight text and select an AI action (Improve writing, Summarize, Translate, etc.)
    • Click the sparkle icon ✨ to access AI features in any text block
    • Open the AI Q&A panel from the sidebar to ask questions about your workspace
  4. For database autofill: Edit a database property, select AI Autofill, and configure the prompt — e.g., “Summarize the page content in one sentence.”
Tip: The workspace Q&A feature is most powerful when your Notion is well-organized with clear page titles and structured content. The more documentation your team has in Notion, the more valuable the AI becomes as an instant knowledge retrieval tool.
