Sudowrite

AI for fiction writers

Writing Application

What it's used for

Sudowrite is an AI writing tool built specifically for fiction authors and creative writers. While general AI assistants can help with many writing tasks, Sudowrite understands the craft of storytelling — narrative structure, character development, pacing, voice, and literary style — making it a genuine creative collaborator rather than just a text generator.

  • Story Engine — generate entire chapters from beat sheets and story outlines, maintaining character voices and plot consistency
  • Describe — expand a moment with vivid sensory details, using all five senses to bring scenes to life
  • Expand — take a short passage and stretch it into a longer, more detailed scene
  • Rewrite — rework prose in different styles (more literary, more commercial, different POV, different tense)
  • Brainstorm — generate plot twists, character backstories, dialogue options, and story beats
  • Feedback — get AI-generated critiques of pacing, prose style, and character consistency

Novelists, short story writers, screenwriters, and creative writing students use Sudowrite to overcome writer's block, explore alternate directions for their stories, and strengthen their prose. It is designed as a collaborator that enhances your creative vision rather than replacing it.

Sudowrite supports long-form projects with a built-in novel writing workspace that tracks characters, locations, plot arcs, and style notes across your entire manuscript.

Getting started

  1. Go to sudowrite.com and sign up for a free trial.
  2. Choose a plan:
    • Hobby & Student ($10/mo): 30,000 AI credits/mo — good for short stories and experimentation
    • Professional ($25/mo): 90,000 AI credits/mo — suited for active novelists and regular use
    • Max ($100/mo): 300,000 AI credits/mo — for power users and full-time authors
  3. Start a new project: paste or write your story in the editor. Add Story Bible details (characters, locations, plot outline) so the AI maintains consistency.
  4. Use the tools from the right sidebar:
    • Highlight text and click Describe, Expand, or Rewrite for targeted improvements
    • Place your cursor and click Write to continue the story from that point
    • Use Story Engine for chapter-by-chapter generation from an outline
Tip: Feed Sudowrite examples of your writing style before generating new content — it picks up on your voice, sentence rhythm, and vocabulary. Use the Twist feature when you're stuck on plot to get unexpected but story-consistent suggestions.
